The MBTA Redline train offers a great view of Boston and Cambridge

Want a great view of Boston and Cambridge that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?  Ride the MBTA Redline Train either outbound or inbound over the Longfellow Bridge.  I enjoy the view a few days a week going into work at the Visitor Information Center on the Boston Common

It’s a great view as the train comes out of the Kendall Sq. tunnel heading towards Charles St. station (or from Charles St. to Kendall on the outbound) . Boston and Cambridge stretch out before you; the Museum of Science, the MIT dome, the Mass Ave. bridge, up the Charles River to the Boston University and Harvard boathouses.

On the Boston side there’s the gold dome of the State House shining above the Esplanade with the Hatch Shell, the spires of the Church of the Covenent, the gleaming John Hancock building then the stately Prudential building, Boston’s first skyscraper.  If you look in the direction of Boston harbor on a clear day that h-shaped building is the Federal Reserve building way down in Dewey Square near South Station.

I’m here to tell you that, for the meager cost of a train ride ($2) you get an incomparable view of two great cities, Boston and Cambridge,

About franfolsom

I write about travel. Any kind of travel, from kayaking in New Brunswick to museum going in Boston. It's what I love to do. And, no, I certainly don't do it for the money. I would starve if that were the case. I do it because I love to write, and it's a great opportunity to meet new people.
